On May 8, the latest edition of the Soya Discussion Club brought together industry representatives to discuss the topic: “The Non-GM Law: What should agricultural producers prepare for?”
The event focused on the new version of the Law of Ukraine “On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control over the Circulation of Genetically Modified Organisms and Genetically Modified Products.” The updated legislation is largely aligned with EU standards and introduces GMO registration, tighter control over their use, and full product traceability.
As the law will enter into force on September 16, the issue is becoming increasingly important for Ukrainian agricultural producers.
During the discussion, participants explored:
- the practical interpretation of the updated non-GM legislation;
- potential risks and new compliance requirements for agricultural producers;
- how farmers can prepare for enhanced regulatory oversight;
- the availability of non-GM seeds and future market opportunities;
- sources of contamination and GMO testing methods.
Overall, about 70 participants joined the online event, while the Facebook livestream attracted more than 600 views.
