On 13 May 2026, Donau Soja joined co-organisers ARGE Gentechnik-frei, ENGA, ProTerra Foundation, and VLOG at the International Non-GMO Summit 2026 in Frankfurt, bringing together the European non-GMO sector for knowledge exchange, dialogue, and practical cooperation.
This year’s summit addressed one of the key questions for the sector: how to maintain credible non-GM food and feed chains as New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) move closer to the European market. In this context, Volodymyr Pugachov, Executive Director and Regional Director Eastern Europe at Donau Soja, presented a market update on global supply and demand for non-GM soya.
The discussion placed market developments firmly in a European context. In 2025, Donau Soja certified around 1 million tonnes of soya from 13 European countries, with more than 9,000 farmers and over 1,000 certified partners across 34 countries contributing to a growing and credible non-GM supply. The message was clear: non-GM soya is not a niche, but a strategic pillar of Europe’s protein supply.
On 14 May, Ukrainian and Moldovan delegations continued the exchange in a dedicated networking meeting, sharing practical experience on non-GMO production, certification, and market integration. For both countries, this dialogue is directly relevant: Ukraine and Moldova are important producers of non-GM soya and active contributors to European protein value chains. Ensuring that evolving EU standards remain workable for producers across the Danube region is essential for market access, supply chain integrity, and the long-term resilience of Europe’s protein transition.
The exchange formed part of Donau Soja’s ongoing cooperation with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), supporting sustainable agricultural development and deeper integration of partner countries into European non-GM value chains.
