The latest edition of the Donau Soja Non-GM Soya Market Report provides an overview of key developments in the European and global soya markets, including price trends, supply dynamics and planting outlooks.

Initial forecasts indicate that EU soybean area could increase by around 4.5–5% in 2026, supported by higher nitrogen fertiliser prices, which are improving soybeans’ competitiveness compared with more input-intensive crops such as maize. At the same time, EU non-GM soybean prices rose by around 5% in February, following developments in global markets.

A special report in this edition highlights Europe’s low soya self-sufficiency and the risks associated with import dependency. Currently, the EU produces only about 8% of the soya it consumes, leaving the livestock sector and food system highly dependent on imports. With global trade concentrated among a few exporting countries and increasing geopolitical and climate-related risks, strengthening European soya and legume production is becoming increasingly important for food security and supply resilience.
