On 16 May 2025, Donau Soja Ukraine hosted an online Soya Discussion Club meeting dedicated to organic soybean production.
The discussion centred on organic cultivation technologies, market access and export opportunities for Ukrainian organic soybeans to the European Union. Between July 2023 and June 2024, Ukraine exported 40,800 tonnes of organic soybeans, followed by a further 28,800 tonnes in the second half of 2024. With these volumes, Ukraine ranks second among global suppliers of organic soybeans to the EU.
Participants discussed the current challenges they face, including ensuring quality and complying with the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The use of biological inputs in organic farming to ensure stable soybean yields was given special attention.
Exporters and processors highlighted the crucial role of partnership programmes in supporting Ukrainian producers. These programmes facilitate traceability and stable market access, opening doors to premium organic markets across the EU. Key importing countries of Ukrainian organic produce include the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Italy and Poland.
Participants highly appreciated the results of the Protein Partnership Programme, a Donau Soja Programme to increase sustainable non-GM soya production in Europe, for its knowledge dissemination and improvement of agricultural production in Ukraine.
