European Parliament Approves One-Year Postponement of the EU Deforestation Regulation

22 December, 2025

EUDR postponement approved by the European Parliament with forest background symbolising deforestation-free supply chains

The European Parliament has approved the compromise on the revision of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), confirming a one-year postponement of its application for all operators.

Under the revised timeline, the EUDR will apply from 30 December 2026 for medium and large operators, with an additional six-month extension for micro and small operators. The revised regulation will enter into force three days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Key changes

  • Due diligence obligation including obligation to submit a due diligence statement will rest exclusively with operators placing products on the EU market for the first time.
  • In April 2026, the European Commission is required to present a report assessing the administrative burden of the EUDR, with particular attention to small operators, and may be accompanied by a legislative proposal.

The postponement should be seen as an opportunity for companies to prepare and implement a strategy to comply with the EUDR but also to go beyond and build deforestation- and conversion-free, transparent and responsible supply chains.

We continue to support our partners in preparing for EUDR implementation and advancing deforestation-free strategies that go further.
