The September 2025 edition of the Donau Soja Market Report provides a timely update on developments shaping the European non-GM soya market – from harvest trends to pricing and policy.
European soya harvest: yields up, area down
The EU-27 soya output is forecast at 2.8 million tonnes, a 3–5% decline compared to last year. While yields are stronger in Italy, Austria, and Poland, drought has reduced harvest potential in Croatia, eastern Hungary, and Romania. Italy remains the largest producer, with nearly 1 million tonnes projected, though delayed harvests and wet conditions may still affect final quality.
Ukraine’s regional contrasts and export dynamics
Ukraine’s 2025 harvest outlook remains mixed, with estimates ranging from 4.9 to 7.6 million tonnes. Donau Soja maintains its forecast at 5.7 million tonnes (-4.5% year on year). Yields are strong in the west but sharply reduced in drought-hit central and eastern regions. Despite favourable output potential in non-GM areas, Ukraine introduced a 10% export duty in September, likely to curb bean shipments and redirect volumes into local crushers. This shift is boosting non-GM meal exports to the EU.
Prices remain subdued
In September, non-GM soybean prices in southern Germany eased by 3.4% to €400–405/t. Both non-GM and GM prices remain at relatively low levels, influenced by abundant global supply.
EUDR delay on the horizon
On 23 September, the European Commission proposed a one-year postponement of the EUDR, pending approval from EU member states and Parliament. If confirmed, this could significantly reshape market dynamics and the timing of EU soybean sourcing.
The Donau Soja Market Report is published monthly and provides in-depth insights into production, price trends, and policy shifts in the European non-GM soya sector.
