At this year’s Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global in Barcelona on May 7th, Donau Soja hosted a high-level panel discussion on one of aquaculture’s most urgent topics: Sustainability in Aquafeed – Aligning Supply Chains with EU Requirements. Together with experts from Skretting, Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), and the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA), we tackled the critical challenge of sourcing feed ingredients like soya responsibly and in line with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). We had engaging discussions on how the aquafeed sector is preparing for the EUDR while also advancing broader sustainability progress—highlighting both the complexity and the opportunity that lie ahead.
What became clear in the discussion:
✔ Sustainability and regulatory compliance must go hand in hand
✔ The EUDR is not just a challenge—it’s a catalyst for greater transparency and long-term transformation
✔ Regional, certified soya offers a real opportunity to reduce CO₂ footprints across the value chain
✔ Collaboration is key – feed producers, certifiers, and downstream partners must work together
✔ Digital tools, like Donau Soja’s Crop Insights, make EUDR compliance more practical, inclusive, and accessible, especially for smallholders leaving no one behind
Let’s continue driving the shift toward responsible, EUDR-compliant aquafeed – together.
