So many strengths. One Superbean.
Many people don’t realise how important soya is for our food systems – and far beyond tofu. European soya is a true multitasker: good for animals, good for the environment, and good for the future of our agriculture. Grown in Europe, without deforestation and under strict sustainability standards, it provides highquality protein for both animals and people, enriches soils, strengthens regional farming, and significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. Its versatility makes soya a crop, that helps make our food systems more climatefriendly, resilient and responsible.
The Soya Superbean shows that sometimes the greatest power comes in the smallest form.
How European Soya Helps Protect the Climate
A reliable supply of protein is essential for European agriculture – because animals, just like humans, need highquality protein to stay healthy and grow.
Did you know?
More than 75% of all soya used worldwide goes into animal feed, where it plays a crucial role in providing animals with the nutrients they need. That’s why choosing products, that carry the Europe Soya logo, helps support a sustainable, futureready protein supply for Europe.
The Europe Soya Standard guarantees:
- Cultivation according to clearly defined standards
- 100% nonGMO
- No deforestation or landuse change
- Full supplychain transparency
This creates a food system that benefits the environment, farmers and consumers alike – and shows just how much positive impact European soya can have.

Example:
When pigs are fed Europe Soyacertified soya, CO₂ emissions across the entire value chain can be significantly reduced – and in this case, reductions of up to 50% per kilogram of pork are possible. This shows clearly: the choice of feed directly shapes the climate footprint of our food.
How European Soya Makes a Real Difference:
Up to 90% fewer CO₂ emissions along the value chain
European, certified soya can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions across the entire value chain. Depending on the product group, reductions of up to 90% are possible. This makes European soya one of the most effective levers for more climatefriendly animal feed and food production.
No Deforestation
European soya is grown without deforestation or landuse change – and this is backed by EU legislation. The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) has already been adopted but will be implemented step by step. The Europe Soya Standard goes even further: it has required deforestationfree production for years and already meets these requirements today. Consumers can be confident that European soya does not contribute to forest destruction.
Short Transport Routes
Because European soya is grown and processed right here in Europe, transport distances are short – from the field to the feed trough or to the supermarket shelf. This reduces transport emissions, saves energy, strengthens regional farmers and supports a stable European supply chain. A simple step with a big effect on overall sustainability.
Healthy Soils & Sustainable Crop Rotations
As a legume, soya naturally captures nitrogen from the air and brings it into the soil. This can reduce the need for synthetic fertiliser, saving resources and protecting the environment. Soya also fits perfectly into diverse crop rotations: different crops are grown on the same field from year to year, keeping soils fertile, supporting biodiversity and naturally reducing pests and diseases.
Best practices
The Rudolf Großfurtner GmbH has been an active member of Donau Soja since 2018 and promotes a sustainable, secure protein supply in Europe by using Donau Soja feed. This ensures responsibly produced pork products that consumers can enjoy with a good feeling. read more
The GUSTINO brand stands for circular economy and climate protection. The straw pigs are fed exclusively with regional feed, much of it is grown directly on the farms themselves. By using Donau Sojacertified soya in the “Klimafit” module, GUSTINO also sets a clear example for sustainable and climatefriendly feeding. read more
Fleischwaren Berger GmbH has been a member of Donau Soja since 2020. The company’s RegionalOptimal and Tierwohl farmers rely on feed that meets Donau Soja quality standards. Across all partner farms, at least one third of the protein components already comes from Donau Sojacertified soya — supporting a lower CO₂ footprint and a sustainable protein supply in pig farming. read more
Donau Soja and Europe Soya – What does it mean?
The Donau Soja and Europe Soya standards are currently being brought together into a unified European quality standard. Because the transition is happening step by step, both labels will continue to appear on products until the 2026/27 harvest. After that, the Europe Soya label will be used consistently across Europe.
What changes for consumers?
Nothing. Products carrying the Donau Soja standard already meet the criteria of the Europe Soya standard. The requirements remain the same – only the name is being aligned to create uniform labeling across Europe.
Still guaranteed: non-GMO, deforestation-free and strictly controlled – grown in Europe, for Europe.
