Biodiversity is a cornerstone of agriculture – and protecting it is one of the key commitments of Donau Soja. Food for Biodiversity has compared the basic criteria for biodiversity with the criteria of our standards.
Donau Soja and Europe Soya have both achieved 76% of the criteria (as of 2025) and contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and its ecosystem services. This is why both of our standards are recommended by Food for Biodiversity.
Both standards are dedicated to deforestation- and conversion-free soya supply chains and include clear criteria for biodiversity protection, including crop rotation, responsible pesticide use, GM-free production, best practice in water management, protection of valuable ecosystems, and more.
This recognition strengthens the value of both standards for food and feed companies that aim to source responsibly and report credibly on their sustainability performance.
“Biodiversity is under threat worldwide – especially in our agricultural landscapes. Companies that integrate Donau Soja and Europe Soya into their supply chains are actively contributing to biodiversity protection and its ecosystem services and can make this visible in their sustainability reporting,” says Oliver Peters, Food for Biodiversity.
This chart shows how Donau Soja/Europe Soya performed in each of the four main categories of the Food for Biodiversity Benchmark 2025.
We are committed to continuously improving our Donau Soja standards to keep pace with evolving sustainability requirements and scientific developments. Therefore, we are exploring further enhancements and aim to apply new biodiversity and regenerative practices through dedicated pilot projects.
Join our Biodiversity and Regenerative Agriculture Projects
We are currently planning new projects with additional biodiversity and regenerative agriculture measures that are going beyond our current standard requirements to restore and strengthen biodiversity and soil health in agricultural landscapes.
Get in touch with us if you are interested to join our projects for biodiversity protection and regenerative farming in Europe. We are looking for partners who want to support and co-shape the next level of sustainable soya production in Europe.
