A workshop on the biosafety regulatory situation in Moldova

On 27 February 2020 Donau Soja office in Moldova hosted a workshop on the Biosafety regulatory situation. The activity was aimed at presenting the initial results and complement and validate the findings of the study carried out by Environment Agency Austria assessing the Biosafety and non-GM regulatory situation in Moldova, as well as discuss the Biosafety and Non-GM situation in Moldova, including the practical implementation of legislation and respective challenges.

The workshop was moderated by Helmut Gaugitsch, Head of Unit Scientific Services Biodiversity of Environment Agency Austria (EAA) and the speakers included Mihail Machidon, State Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of Moldova, Angela Lozan, Head of Moldova Biodiversity Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of Moldova and Anita Greiter from the Unit Land Use and Biosafety, Environment Agency Austria (EAA).

The participants in the event had the opportunity to exchange their knowledge and experience and contribute to the development of a comprehensive and exhaustive analysis of the current situation in the respective area in Moldova.

The workshop was organised int he framework of the EU funded project “Increasing the competitiveness of the agri-food sector through integration to domestic and global value chains, in particular in the soya sector” implemented by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) in partnership with Donau Soja Austria and Moldovan NGO Pro Didactica in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova.
