Legumes Translated

Legumes Translated (Translating knowledge for legume-based farming for feed and food systems) supports innovation in grain legume-supported cropping systems and value-chains by providing access to knowledge. The consortium will invest a total of 2.16 million Euro supported by a grant of 2.00 million from the EU. The project was launched at a three-day consortium meeting hosted by Donau Soja at the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture in Vienna on November 19-21, 2018.

The consortium comprises 18 partner organisations in 9 countries. Their work will be based on 15 actor groups of research-based partners and practice-oriented partners who will exchange and synthesise knowledge relevant to the production and use of legumes, especially soybean, faba bean and pea. The synthesized knowledge will be validated in terms of its relevance to economic and environmental goals. This work will be done in seven networks of actor groups focused on different types cropping systems and value chains.  The consortium will provide an internet-based knowledge platform for supporting legume cropping and use, supporting the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (EIP Agri). Policy-makers are an important part of these value-chains, and the consortium will contribute to the knowledge of the policy community.

The project consortium was initiated by Donau Soja and Dr Donal Murphy-Bokern in 2016. The commitment of Donau Soja to the Framework Programmes of the European Union dates back to the Donau Soja Congress in May 2015 in Berlin. Research and innovation is very important to the Donau Soja mission of promoting a sustainable and European protein supply. The project supports an important activity for Donau Soja: the networking of actors along value chains for science–based innovation. Therefore, the launch of Legumes Translated in Vienna is a special milestone for Donau Soja.

The project website legumes-translated.eu will be launched in early 2019.
