GUIDELINES FOR THE CERTIFICATION OF DONAU SOJA AND EUROPE SOYA
The Donau Soja Certification Guidelines are based on an uninterrupted (identity preserved) certification chain from farm to consumer. The certification of participating businesses is conducted by external certification bodies approved by the Donau Soja Association. It begins where the produce is stored, and ends at the point where a the Donau Soja or Europe Soya label is used on a marketed product. Each business, e.g., grain collectors, traders, primary processors, compound feed producers, livestock farmers or marketers, participating in the Donau Soja system has to sign an inspection contract with a certification body recognised by Donau Soja Association in order to be certified. Certification is not always be required for soya bean farmers (this depends on the risk level); however, by signing the Donau Soja Declaration of Self-Commitment, farmers’ compliance with the Donau Soja requirements is assured by the buyers of soya beans.
Lot certification is used to ensure traceability and identity preservation. Lot certificates are usually issued at the primary agricultural collector's premises and accompany the produce up to the primary processor's premises. Particular care should be taken to ensure that Donau Soja soya beans are purchased and sold with a valid lot certificate only, as otherwise soya beans cannot be recognised as Donau Soja produce.
