DONAU SOJA'S POSITION ON THE EU PROTEIN PLAN APPROVED BY GENERAL ASSEMBLY
European policy on protein is now the focus of attention following EU Commissioner Hogan’s announcement of the development of a EU Protein Plan last year. This activity is in large part due to your active support, our association’s strong and active work on the European level, and to the support of 14 EU governments who signed the Europe Soya Declaration during summer 2017.
First results of the ongoing consultation process will be presented at a high-level EU conference in late November 2018 in Vienna during the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. We are committed to doing all we can to see that the EU Protein Plan is realistic, ambitious and takes into account the needs of the environment, our farmers, and the potential for European integration through the agriculture and food sectors.
Building on the Europe Soya Declaration, Donau Soja has developed a protein strategy to make a contribution to the public debate on behalf of all the members of Donau Soja. Our strategy calls for holistic approach with system change based on five pillars of activity. Accepting that Europe will remain an importer of soya, it urges a switch to sustainable imports with high environmental and social production standards; it calls for measures to increase grain legume production in Europe; and it considers other measures such as improving the use of protein from grassland and more precise feed formulation. Since European consumption of livestock products is a major driver of protein use with large negative environmental impacts, supporting healthy sustainable diets is an important part of the Donau Soja Protein Strategy for Europe.
Please share our position paper with interested stakeholders and let us have a good debate during our congress, where we hope to build consensus towards a concrete and ambitious action plan.
The 5th International Donau Soja Congress is dedicated to a sustainable and independent European protein supply
International experts await the participants with exciting lectures on the European protein transition.
In discussions and workshops participants will work on strategies and concrete measures to increase sustainable protein production and the efficient use of plant protein.
Tickets for the 5th International Donau Soja Congress from 19-20 June in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany are now available.

Bird pests cause great damage to all types of agricultural spaces.
SCARYBIRD experts have observed that lesser birds are afraid of only a large predator who reject them with it appearance.
The kite with a predator look is constructed from professional materials. It winds up at the top of a special telescope and simulates the flight of the great predator in a completely asymmetrical flight.
The device has shown high efficiency, it is 100% environmentally friendly, doesn’t use energy except the wind and it lasts for more seasons!
A new project – OK-Net EcoFeed – aimed at helping organic pig and poultry farmers in achieving the goal of 100% use of organic and regional feed was launched on 22 January 2018 recently in Newbury, UK.
The Donau Soja Regional Center in Novi Sad will contribute to the project by providing knowledge contained in an innovative supply-chain based on organic soybeans.
Spotlights on Strategies to Optimise the Nutrition of Soya
The Hungarian Soy Association (Magyar Szója) and Donau Soja invite to the joint dialogue and information event "Spotlights on Strategies to optimise the Nutrition of Soya" on 13 June with expert presentations by leading inoculant producers and experienced experts.
The aim of the event is to discuss the success factors for nitrogen fixation and the properties and use of inoculants in a group of inoculant producers, experts from the areas of seeds, research and development, agricultural trade and consulting.
